It is located on the island of Kirkelandet in the town of Kristiansund. The church is part of the Kristiansund parish in the Ytre Nordmøre deanery in the Diocese of Møre. The church is also the seat of the deanery, and Sverre Reinert Jansen is the Dean. The church was built in 1964 by the architect Odd Østbye. The architect Odd Østbye has created a building which breaks with all traditional church architecture.
